"Miss Pearson? What happened?" For a moment, she stood frozen, stunned, before her instincts kicked in. She rushed forward, dropping to her knees beside Hadley, hands trembling as she gently lifted her.

Hadley's body was ice-cold. Her face was pale and her eyes were clenched shut. A sharp wave of panic rushed through the cleaning lady. “Miss Pearson! Can you hear me? Wake up!" No response. Of all the times for this to happen-Eric wasn't home! Her fingers fumbled for her phone. She needed to call emergency services immediately. But something in Eric's stare made the guard swallow his uncertainty and answer quickly. "Your wife was taken to the hospital last night. I thought you were informed." He had assumed Eric already knew-thinking that the moment Hadley was taken to the hospital, he would have been the first to rush there.

Eric's entire body went rigid. The words hit him like a gut punch. "Which hospital did they take her to?" The guard blinked, caught off guard. "Uh?"

"I asked you- which hospital was my wife taken to?" Eric's voice boomed, raw with urgency, his expression cold E as ice. The guard flinched, scrambling for an answer. "T-the city hospital!"

With a deafening roar, the black car spun into a sharp U-turn, tires skidding violently against the om payement. Like a bullet fired from a gun, Eric's car tore through the streets. Meanwhile, at the hospital...

Hadley stirred, her eyelids fluttering open. A dull ache pulsed behind her temples her body still heavy with exhaustion. "Hello, Dr. Duncan? It's me." Dr. Duncan had prescribed the ovulation-stimulating drug for her, the very medication that had pushed her body to its limits.
