Chapter 545: I've Been Hiding Something... From Everyone The way they kept her safe, the secrets they guarded so closely. But now, with her suddenly thrust into the open, everything was changing.

The plan had already deviated the moment she made her public appearance at the sweet sixteen grand ball. Every step she took toward the truth was another step toward danger.

The assassins in Lionora, the constant attacks he had to fend off, the dangers she didn't even know about. It was all building, and he could feel it pressing in on him.

Somto closed his eyes for a moment, fighting the surge of guilt and frustration that clawed at him. He couldn't tell her everything, not now. If she knew too much, she would be in more danger than she already was. The stakes were too high.

Somto stood there, his heart heavy with the weight of a decade's worth of secrets, each one pressing harder than the last. He had thought he was just going to convince Arthur. Thought that today, he could finally get through to his best friend. Get him to let go of the past. But now, it was clear: Nnenna needed convincing too. And suddenly, he felt tired. More than tired, really.

He felt like he was running on fumes, and for the first time, he wasn't sure he could keep pretending. If only he could just say everything, everything he had locked away for so long, then maybe it wouldn't have to be this way. He wouldn't have to carry this burden alone anymore.

But the cost of speaking those words, of unburdening himself, was so high. And the idea of dragging Nnenna into this tangled mess, of finally letting her in on what had been kept from her all these years, made his stomach twist.

"Nnenna," Somto called her name, his voice quieter this time. It was almost as if the very act of saying it opened a door to something he wasn't sure he was ready to face.

The words he had been suppressing for so long were on the tip of his tongue, ready to roll out and unravel everything. He could feel it, the moment was coming, and he couldn't stop it. He didn't want to stop it anymore. Arthur, from a distance, watched with narrowed eyes. There was something in Somto's hesitation, in the way his posture had shifted, that made him pause.

Since the very first day Somto visited Nnenna in the hospital, when she woke up, Arthur had known something wasn't right. He had known Somto was hiding something, but what? The pieces had never fit, and now, seeing the way Somto looked at Nnenna, he couldn't shake the feeling that whatever it was, it had everything to do with her. And that person he had been searching for.

Somto called her nagain, this this voice trembling, just slightly, as he took a step forward. He hesitated for a moment, his mind racing.

He was close, closer than he had ever been to telling the truth. But the weight of it, the potential fallout, it was too much. Was he really ready to unravel everything? "Somto," Nnenna's voice interrupted his thoughts, soft but steady. Her eyes, filled with questions, met his. "What are you hiding?" Somto swallowed hard. The silence between them was suffocating, but it was necessary, wasn't it? He couldn't just unload everything on them. Not like this.

But he could feel the truth burning inside of him, and in that moment, he wasn't sure how much longer he could keep it locked away.

Arthur took a step closer too, his gaze sharp and expectant, but there was something in his eyes, something softer. His suspicion deepened, but so did his concern.

Somto took a deep breath. This wasn't just about Nnenna anymore. It never had been. It was about all of them. The tangled web of lies, the secrets, and the growing danger... all of it was finally coming to a head.

"Somto," Arthur said, breaking the silence. His voice was calm, but there was a weight in it. A demand for answers.

The three of them stood there, the tension thickening the air. Somto knew he couldn't keep running. Not anymore.

"I have to tell you," he began, his voice low, but steady now. The words weren't easy, but they were coming, and there was no stopping them. "I've been hiding something... from both of you. From everyone." Nnenna stiffened. Arthur's eyes sharpened even further. The air around them crackled with the intensity of what was about to unfold.

Somto took one final breath, looking first at Nnenna, then at Arthur. "Everything you think you know... it's not the whole truth." And with that, the walls he had spent so long building began to crumble.

"Nnnena, you aren't—" Boom!

A loud explosion sounded just a few feet away from them, the shockwave m sending all three of them flying several meters through the air. The ground felt like it was slipping out from under them as the world spun wildly. Arthur's ears rang painfully as his body crashed into the dirt. He was dizzy, his head throbbing, but years of training kicked in, his muscles screamed in protest, but he pushed himself up.

Through the haze of pain, he could feel the presence of multiple figures moving around them in the trees. They were surrounded.

He tried to focus, but Nnenna was lying still on the ground, her body risin limp, her chest rising and fallingm shallowly. She had had lost consciousness, too drained from her fight with Nicholas and Stephanie to handle another attack. Somto, however, didn't move immediately. He remained kneeling, as if stunned by the force of the explosion.

But then, almost instinctively, he pulled out his phone and tapped the screen with practiced urgency, trying to reach his subordinates. Despite the ringing in his ears and the chaos around him, he didn't waste a moment. "Unit Four, perimeter, NOW!" he barked, his voice cold but commanding, the authority he carried in battle flowing naturally.
