Chapter 123:

It was then that Alice realized that her apartment was flooded.
“Could it really be a burst pipe?” she muttered in disbelief. “That was just the excuse | used to get out of the
doctor's office today.”
Caden remembered the landlord's angry voice and frowned slightly. “I'll go with you.”
Alice looked at the time. It was late, and she was comforted by the idea of having someone with her. She agreed.
When they arrived at their rental apartment, Caden took charge. He pushed the landlord and downstairs
neighbors aside, leaving room for Alice to go inside and assess the damage. | found the shutoff valve and turned
it off. Then he quickly called a repairman to cfix the problem. When he was done, Alice walked out to find
the landlord and neighbors gone.
Caden approached her calmly. “The compensation has been deducted from your deposit. You should start
looking for another place to live. Buildings this old aren't safe.”
Alicia agreed with her assessment. It was tfor a change.
Things were different now. Alicia could no longer handle everything alone like before. Now that she had
partnered with Caden, she needed to make sure that her personal safety was guaranteed.
He looked back at his apartment, then silently rolled up his sleeves and began packing his things.
Caden looked at her, clearly displeased. “Everything is flooded, and you still want to keep all this?”
Alice replied calmly: “Sof these objects are very important to me.”
He grabbed a bag and started putting away small items from his drawer.
Many of them were old, but well preserved. It was obvious that Alice cherished each one, keeping them tidy and
clean despite their age.
He moved efficiently, packing his belongings quickly. It didn't take long for him to fill a large bag.
“That should be about it,” he said, turning to Caden. “Would you mind if | kept this at your place for a while?”
Caden agreed slightly. “Sounds good to me. “I don’t mind.”
Alicia took a deep breath before hoisting the heavy bag onto her shoulder. Caden was surprised.

He looked at the dirty water covering the floor. Without hesitation, he stepped forward and took the bag from
her.
"Would it kill you to ask for help?" | have asked.
Alicia straightened her neck defiantly. “I don't usually ask for help.”
Caden stepped forward, taking careful steps as he walked.
Alice frowned and asked, "What are you looking for?"
Caden's tone turned a little flat. “Mousetraps.”
“Huh? Why?” Alice asked, genuinely confused.
Due to the unexpected flood, Alicia had to return to Caden's apartment with him.
During the return trip, she unexpectedly fell asleep in the car.
The soft, warm glow of the car's interior light fell on her face, highlighting her peaceful features. She seemed
serene, peaceful, and oblivious to the harshness of the world.
Caden stared at Alicia for a moment before leaning over to pat her shoulder. “We're here,” he said.
Alice frowned slightly, but moved only a little, still sleeping.
Caden sighed. He cradled her in one arm while carrying the bag with the other and walking up the stairs.
Once inside, | carefully placed her on the sofa. As he arranged her, a photo album fell out of the bag and landed
at his feet.
He glanced at the cover. It showed Alice as a baby with her parents.
In the photo, she was only a few months old, with round cheeks and fair skin. She was smiling at the camera,
showing two small white teeth. She looked adorable.
Caden had never seen these photos before. He couldn't resist opening the album.
On the first page there was a photo of Alice on the day she was born.
The photograph showed Alice, freshly groomed and wrapped in a soft blanket, crying like a newborn. Beneath
the image was a line of elegant handwriting that read: “Our darling daughter, Lucky.”
Caden narrowed his eyes slightly, rubbing his thumb over the name.
"Lucky, huh?" | have muttered.
Alice was still deep in sleep when she heard the sound of his voice. Instinctively she snuggled closer to him,
murmuring softly, “Yes...”
Caden looked at her, taking in her peaceful expression, before gently closing the album.
| turned off the lights in the living room and turned on the air conditioning. Then, with Alicia still in his arms, he
lay down beside her, letting her eyes close as she fell asleep.
Morning has come.
When Caden woke up, he realized that Alicia was no longer by his side.
He looked at his watch and, to his surprise, it was already nine in the morning.
Caden couldn't quite remember how he had slept the night before. His memories were hazy, unlike his usual
sleepless nights of restless dreams.

He continued eating as he headed for the door. He grabbed his car keys and went out.
Caden noticed that unlike most mornings when he would just have a cup of coffee, he felt actually satisfied after
having this breakfast.
If your stomach could talk, it would say: "Finally, a proper breakfast after all this time."
When he arrived at the office, he immediately went into work mode.
He gave Hank back the breakfast he had bought him.
Hank looked confused. “Why? “Skipping breakfast isn't good for you, sir.”
Caden replied, “I'll be eating at hfrom now on. “You don’t need to buybreakfast anymore.”
