Brittany had no idea that people were talking about her. After taking a few days off to recuperate, she plunged back into her work
with renewed vigor. During her lunch break, after finishing a sandwich, she returned to her lounge.
No sooner had she lied down when there was a knock at the door.
Then, the door swung open.
Her assistant rarely barged into her office, so instinctively, Brittany sat up, her body tense. She threw off the covers, got up, and
without thinking, pulled open a drawer to grab a paring knife.
That's when she heard—
"Bri?"
At the sound of the voice, Brittany quickly put down the knife.
Then, Isaac pushed the door wider, spotting Brittany's defensive move, "Bri, you alright?"
Brittany shook her head, closing the drawer, "What brings you here?"
Isaac walked over, pulling her into an embrace, inhaling her scent, which always brought him peace, "Just got back from a business
trip."
Brittany, accustomed to his presence, instinctively wrapped her arms around his waist, "Why didn't you tellyou wereing?"

"Did anyone see you—"
"No one."
Isaac lifted her up, "Heard about the chess club thing at your office. Interested?"
"Not really."
The last few days had been rough on Brittany. Chess was the least of her worries.
Isaac, missing her terribly, attempted to kiss her.
Brittany dodged, "Not now."
She had a meeting in the afternoon and couldn't afford to skip a nap.
Isaac raised an eyebrow, feeling rejected, "Don't miss me?"
Brittany took his hand, placing it on her stomach, "I'm pregnant."
That meant, no tfor lovemaking.
Isaac froze.
His body stiffened, the warmth in his palm fading, "Pregnant?"
Brittany noticed his reaction wasn't of joy, biting her lip, "Aren't you happy?"
She thought he'd be thrilled.
Isaac's emotions wereplex, not unhappiness but a deep-seated guilt.
Having Daniel was tough on Brittany, and after losing a baby before, now having another brought back the guilt for what she had
endured.
Holding her hand, he pressed it to his lips, "Bri, I'm sorry, that night was my fault—"
He hadn't planned anything, but he couldn't resist her.
"Don't you want the child?"
Brittany couldn't sit still.
Isaac looked at her earnestly, "Of course, | do. But you've suffered so much before, | didn't expect... so soon."
Brittany sighed in relief, "I thought you weren't happy."
Isaac couldn't bear the thought of not wanting the child. He gently caressed her belly, "How long?"

"Probably from that night in Imperial City." Brittany counted the weeks, "About two months."
Despite being slim, Brittany couldn't hide her growing belly.
"Does anyone else know?"
"No one." Brittany shook her head, "You're the first person I've told."
Isaac, overwhelmed with excitement at the thought of another child, buried his face in her neck, "Bri, you've done well."
Carrying a child was never easy.
Brittany, facing all this pressure, made his heart ache.
Brittany, with a light smile, clasped his neck, "I'm very fond of him."
This child was theirs, a part of them both. She looked forward to the day the child woulde into their world with bated breath.
After ensuring Brittany was asleep, Isaac quietly left the Lte Conglomerate.
He immediately sought out Elijah, "About that deal, | might have to break it."
Elijah frowned, "Why? We're on the verge of success—"
In just three months, everyone who ever wronged the Ulbricht family would pay.
Isaac, calm yet determined, "Anything you want, | can provide. But | need to go public with my identity soon."
