Chapter 323

As soon as Zane returned to his study and was about to sit down, his phone rang

Glancing at the nflashing on the screen, he didn’t need to think twice to know why Jeremy was calling it was

befminely about what had happened that afternoon.

Zane hadn't expected Fabian to act so quickly. In just a short time, word had already reached the Murphy Family

With a slight swipe of his finger, Zane answered the call without saying a word jeremy’s voice immediately came

through the receiver. “Zane, | nearly didn't live to see tomorrow because of you

Yes, nearly, right?” Zane replied, his voice as cold and sharp as eVEL.

Jeremy was instantly annoyed. “Zane, could you at least show a little sympathy? | got into this mess for your

safe, after all

“Tell Mr. Murphy there’s no need to worry about the western district property. I'll take care of Fabian Zane said.

Jeremy was taken aback. “You already know?”

“But | didn’t say a single word. Does Zane have skind of mind-reading ability? Jeremy thought

You think everyone's as stupid as you? Almost anyone could figure this out.” Zane said.

Jeremy felt insulted again. “Hey, I'm actually pretty smart, okay?”

“If you were, you wouldn't have lost the land.” Zane countered.

“Fabian is as sly as a fox. How was | supposed to outmaneuver him? Besides, weren't you the one who toldto

use the western district land as bait to lure him out?” Jeremy argued.

His tone carried a hint of grievance, but Zane's expression remained unreadable as he responded in a deep

voice. | never told you to set up the meeting so far away and then not discuss a single thing related to the land

Jeremy, do you even know how to act?”

“Act?” Jeremy raised an eyebrow, clearly not understanding what Zane meant.

Zane elaborated. “If you had made it look more convincing, Fabian wouldn't have had enough reason to pressure

the Murphy Family.

“Besides, the Murphy Family values their reputation above all else. You know exactly what kind of temper your

grandfather has. Fabian played right into that and used it against you.”

Jeremy finally caught on.

He sighed, “Zane, you and Fabian are way too calculating. It’s only natural that | wouldn't think of these things.

Compared to you two, I'm just an innocent little lamb.

“And you? You're foxed, cunning foxes. A lamb could never outsmart a fox.”

“But if | heard you right just now, you said you'd handle Fabian, didn’t you?” Jeremy's tone was casual. Even

though he already knew the answer, he still wanted to hear Zane confirm it.

“Yes, leave it to me,” Zane said.

Jeremy was overjoyed. “No need for words of gratitude! Next tyou're at my garage, pick any car you like, it's

yours, no questions asked.”

“You really think | need another car? Zane said.

Jeremy thought about it and realized that Zane, of all people, didn’t lack money. In fact, Zane’s garage probably

had even more cars than Jeremy's

So, gifting him a car was clearly a dead-end.

“Zane, see if there's anything else | have that you might need. Feel free to say it,” Jeremy offered.

“If you could talk less, that would be the greatest gift, Zane replied.

Jeremy rolled his eyes. Complaining that | talk too much? Fine, at a tlike this, I'd better not provoke Zane, he

wondered.

“Alright, I'll shut up,” Jeremy said.

“Bye.” Zane hung up without hesitation. Jeremy stared at his phone screen as it returned to the hscreen.

‘Wow, he really doesn’t waste time, Jeremy grumbled to himself.

Early the next morning, when Elysia opened her door, she found Fabian already standing outside.

“Fabian? When did you arrive?” Elysia asked, a hint of joy in her eyes.

“Last night. Alyce toldyou were already asleep, so | didn’t want to disturb you,” Fabian replied, his tone

gentle. “Con, I'll drive you back to school.”

“Alright,” Elysia said.

As Elysia followed Fabian out of the door, she saw two cars parked outside. Zane was standing by one of the

doors, his posture straight and firm.

Elysia suddenly remembered that Zane had mentioned last night he would take her to school. The situation in

front of her felt a bit awkward.

She glanced at Fabian beside her, her gaze shifting to Zane, and she couldn't help but feel that the atmosphere

around them had suddenly becmuch tenser.

Just as Elysia was about to speak to ease the tension, Zane's voice cut in. “Mr. Evans, had | known you would be

the one picking up Elysia, | wouldn't have bothered coming.

“Well, since I'm here, | have sbusiness I'd like to discuss with you. After we take Elysia to school, how about

we find a quiet place to talk business?”

Fabian’s eyes gleamed with sharpness. “Mr. Hartley, why would you think I'd want to discuss business with you?”

“We're both businessmen, after all. We're in it for profit. And with your temperament, you wouldn't pass up an

opportunity to make money, would you, Mr. Evans?” Zane said.

‘Zane’s eyes held a smile, but there was no expression on Fabian’s face. Elysia couldn't shake the feeling that

the tension

between the two men was thickening by the second.

“Fabian, Zane, I'm going to be late for school,” Elysia said.

Only then did the two men pull back from their fierce stances.

No matter what, Elysia cfirst.

“I'll take Elysia to school first, and we can discuss this later, Fabian said.

He looked at Elysia, his tone much softer than it had been with Zane. “Elysia, get in the car.”

“Alright.” Elysia blinked her large eyes, doing her best to appear as innocent and harmless as possible.

She quickly glanced at Zane but said nothing, merely offering him a brief look.

Just as the two of them were about to close the door of the business car, a hand suddenly stopped it. “Mr. Evans,

would you mind givinga ride?” Zane asked.

“I do mind, Fabian replied flatly.

“Well then, Mr. Evans, if you could be patient withfor just a moment, after the business talk, I'm sure you

won't findso troublesome,” Zane said.

Before Fabian could respond, Zane climbed into the car and sat in the back seats behind them.

Fabian glanced at Zane through the rearview mirror. Though his face didn’t show it, he was extremely

displeased.

When we were kids, | never saw him this shameless. Not only is he trying to win over my sister, but now he’s

hitching a ride too, Fabian thought.

Joel, also caught off guard by Zane’s unexpected action, wasn’t sure if he was supposed to drive or not.

He cautiously glanced at Fabian. “Mr. Evans, should | start driving?”

“Yes.” Fabian nodded.

Joel's tense nerves finally relaxed.

He stepped on the gas, and the car smoothly drove out of Arcanum House. Zane's assistant, Barry, was still

standing in front of the Maybach, watching the business car drive away while glancing at the car keys in his

hand.

Earlier, when Zane handed him the keys, Barry thought he was just preparing to get kicked out. He never

expected Zane to actually get a ride.

‘Mr. Hartley really knows how to work things. I'm impressed,‘ Barry thought.

The car pulled up in front of Milton School. Elysia stepped out, looking at Fabian and then at Zane. “Oh well,

Fabian, Zane, you two talk things over,” she said, offering a slight smile.
