Chapter 1779

Maggie lifted her head, her innocent facade intact. “You don’t have a meeting with Mr. James, it’s already nice of

me to let you wait here. Can’t you do me a little favor?”

“No way.” Emily glared at Maggie’s smug face, disgusted. So all her past kindness was a sham, and she played it so

convincingly.

Maggie’s face darkened and she was about to retort when she spotted someone approaching. Her features

immediately lit up with a sweet smile, “Mr. James.”

Charlie, with an air of aloofness, walked up to her desk, picked up the phone, and dialed the HR department.

“Send someone up here and fire Maggie. Assign someone else to take over her tasks. Also, issue an internal notice

in the James Group that no company under the James Group is allowed to hire Maggie again.”

Maggie’s face paled instantly. “Mr. James”

But Charlie didn’t even spare her a glance. He took Emily’s hand and led her toward his office.

Emily stumbled a little as she followed him. She whispered, “My design drafts.”

Charlie passed the couch, grabbed Emily’s design drafts, and led her directly into his office.

Once the door was shut, Charlie let go of Emily. He turned around with a smile, “Did you come to see me?”

Emily pursed her lips, her voice slightly tense, “I’ve finished some of the design drafts. I thought I’d show you.”

Charlie smiled, a soft light hidden in his eyes. He sat down at his desk and began to examine her design drafts.

“Not bad, pretty good.” Charlie commented after flipping through a couple of pages, looking up at her with a smile.

Emily responded as if she was speaking to a client, “Please feel free to comment if there’s anything you’re not

satisfied with. I’ll modify it until you’re content.”

Charlie’s smile froze for a moment, but he didn’t say anything.

After a moment of silence, Emily bit her lip and asked softly, “Do you have time tonight?”

Charlie’s eyebrows twitched, his eyes deep and inscrutable. He asked with a teasing tone, “When a woman asks a

man if he has time at night, do you know what that means?”

Emily was taken aback. She quickly clarified, “Don’t get the wrong idea. I just want to invite you for dinner.”

Charlie eyed her leisurely, “Alright then, if you make it, I’ll eat it”

Without any hesitation, Emily nodded, “I’ll cook for you.”

Charlie’s smile widened, his gaze fixated on her, “Then what are you waiting for? Let’s go.”

“Aren’t you going to look at the design drafts anymore?” Emily asked.

“I can’t focus anymore.” Charlie stood up, grabbed his suit jacket, and walked up to her. There was a meaningful

look in his eyes as he said, “I’m starving.”

Emily was taken aback, her face instantly turning red. She quickly turned her head away.

Charlie chuckled and led her out of the office.

As they were leaving, someone from HR was handling the work handover with Maggie, who was sobbing and

refusing to leave.

Upon seeing Charlie, Maggie immediately rushed over, her face full of grievance, “Mr. James, what did I do wrong?

You should at least give me a reason for firing me.”

Holding Emily’s hand tighter, Charlie’s eyes were cold and indifferent, “Do you think you’re qualified to manipulate

Emily?”

Maggie stood in shock, tears streaming down her face.

Charlie led Emily away, leaving a stunned Maggie behind.

Charlie drove the car himself, Emily sitting shotgun. As they left the James Building, she quickly said, “We don’t have

much food at hore. We should go to the supermarket first.”

Kya wasn’t home and she had told Ms. Simmons not to come for a while. She couldn’t eat much when she was

alone and hadn’t cooked much in the past few days.

Charlie glanced at her, “Are you really going to cook?”

Emily looked at him with wide eyes, “Didn’t you say you wanted to eat my cooking?”

Charlie’s lips curled into a leisurely smile, and he nodded lightly, “Alright, to the supermarket then”
