Chapter 1774

The James Family Kya was frolicking in the garden when Charlie got home, only to be pulled into the living room by

Mrs. James.

Holding her blueprints, she excitedly explained her plans.

“We’ve thought it through with your dad. We’re going to convert the guest room next to our bedroom into a

nursery. Of course, Kya’s still too young for it now, but we’ll save it for later. The larger room next to the nursery,

we’ll turn it into an indoor playroom.”

“In the yard, we’ll build a large playground next to the garden for Kya. So she can have fun without leaving the

house”

“Kya loves animals, so we’ll build a small zoo next to the greenhouse. We can keep all her favorite animals there –

birds, giraffes, ponies, and deer”

“By the way, I’ve hired two child nutritionists today. You should check if the meals they’ve prepared are to Kya’s

liking.”

Mrs. James was thrilled about all the arrangements she’d made today.

Charlie rubbed his forehead. “Did you really rush me home for this?”

“What’s wrong with that? These are all related to Kya. They’re the most important things in our lives right now.

Don’t you care?” Mrs. James huffed.

Charlie replied, “You can make these decisions on your own, you don’t need to ask me.”

Mrs. James sounded exasperated. “Your dad spends his entire day revolving around Kya. He doesn’t listen to me at

all. Ineed someone to talk to.”

Charlie laughed in resignation. “I trust you guys with Kya. I’ve got more important things to handle”

“What could be more important?’ Mrs. James smiled faintly, as if she had thought of something, sipped her tea, and

said, “Well, it’s high time we talked about this. Ms. Sullivan has been raising Kya for two years. We’re not heartless.

Ask her how much money she wants. Whatever amount she asks for, I’ll agree.

“Fine.” Charlie’s smile faded, and he spoke slowly. “You don’t need to ask Emily, just ask yourself”

Mrs. James was confused. “Ask myself?”

Charlie nodded. “Yes, ask yourself how much money you would want if someone tried to buy your relationship with

me. Whatever amount you say, we can give to Emily.”

Mrs. James was taken aback by Charlie’s words. “Charlie, Ms. Sullivan is definitely not simple. First, she had a

relationship with you, then ran overseas with the baby, and then brought the child back to acknowledge you as the

father. She’s much more cunning than you think.”

Charlie scoffed. “Mom, in your eyes, can’t I even tell what kind of person the woman by my side is? Am I that

clueless?”

“Charlie,” Mrs. James was firm. “Even if Ms. Sullivan is a good person, I can’t allow you to marry her. I won’t allow a

girl of her background to step into my house.”

Charlie finally understood why Emily was hesitant.

His mother’s words were hard to accept, let alone for Emily.

He was just as obstinate, “She won’t be entering your house. I’ll give her a home of her own.”

Mrs. James spoke earnestly, “Charlie, feelings might be ephemeral, but marriage shouldn’t be an impulsive

decision.”

“If ty and impulsiveness can last three years, I believe they can last thirty years, or even a lifetime,” Charlie

said seriously, each word carrying weight. “Mom, I love Kya because she’s Emily’s child.”

Mrs. James was taken aback by his words, staring at Charlie in surprise.

Charlie poured tea into her cup. “Mom, you’ve always wanted me to settle down with a decent girl. Now I’ve found

her, and I don’t want the resistance to come from you.”

Mrs. James thought for a moment, then slowly shook her head, holding onto her beliefs. “I really don’t think much

of her family.”

“Yes, her family is unfortunate. But I hope we can be her good fortune.” Charlie’s voice was deep, tinged with

heartache. “If you can’t accept Emily, that’s okay. I won’t bring her to you. We’ll have our own home.”

After he finished speaking, he glanced at the garden outside and stood up. “As for the playground and zoo you

mentioned, I think all of that combined is still not as important as giving Kya a complete family”
