Selena sat quietly for a moment before asking, "How are the two tasks I gave you progressing?" Her assistant answered, "Everything has been arranged on Ms. Sowle's end. Also, Mrs. Dawson followed your instructions and extended invitations to both Mrs. Munoz and Mrs. Reid. They've confirmed they'll be attending the ball on Friday." Selena nodded, satisfied. She leaned against the armrest, fingers resting lightly on her temple. "Maya, this ghas just begun. Don't be in such a rush to strike. We need to be patient and chip away at them bit by bit, let their mindset unravel. That's when the real fun starts." Her assistant, Maya Delaney, smiled and responded, "Understood, Mrs. Locke." Upstairs, Vespera carefully set aside the gifts brought by Luke and Theodore. She didn't ask a single question about Theodore. Both Wanda and Vernon were afraid that she would ask.

"I'm heading to work," said Vespera, anxious to avoid any mention of Dominic. She grabbed her bag and slipped out the door quickly.

"Drive safe," Wanda called after Vespera.

After Vespera closed the door, she felt relieved. Wanda and Vernon, who were inside the apartment, let out a sigh of relief, too.

Vespera walked through the community when a silver SUV slowly passed her. She didn't recognize the vehicle, but a chill crept down her spine. It felt like something evil had brushed right past her.

Since Vespera had already taken the day off, she figured it wouldn't matter if she arrived a bit late. On her way in, she stopped by a self-service car wash to clean her car before heading to the office.

She had just settled into her chair when the internal line rang.

"Cto my office," said a cold voice from the other end of the line.

Vespera rubbed her temples and made her way to the president's office. When she entered, she noticed that Dominic's computer wasn't even on.

"Mr. Reid, did you need something?" Vespera asked, standing across from his desk. Her tone was professional, and her expressiowas composed. It was as though she were a front-desk manager handling a difficult guest.

It was exhausting, constantly keeping up this front.

Dominic spoke up, "It's nothing urgent. I just wanted to check on your personal life. If your mornings at hare always that exciting, should I expect you to call out sick every day?" In response, Vespera said, "It doesn't happen every day." Dominic pressed on, "Whether it happens or not might not be entirely up to you, don't you think so?" Vespera paused for a moment before asking, "What exactly are you trying to say?" Dominic then said, "Starting today, you'll be moving back into the apartment." Vespera hesitated.

"Is there a problem?" Dominic asked, catching her hesitation. Then, as if making a generous offer, he added "If it's too inconvenient, I can always start showing up at your house every morning to supervise your departure." Vespera's eyes widened. "That's completely unnecessary. I'll go back to the apartment." She couldn't imagine her parents' reaction if Dominic actually showed up every morning.

Dominic smiled and picked up a document from his desk. "Take this to Mr. Smith." th." m Vespera stepped forward to grab the document, but just as her fingers touched it, Dominic gave it a subtle tug, pulling her closer.

In an instant, the distance between them vanished. They were face to! face, so close they could feel each other's breath.
