She then began to gently wipe Quincy's feverish body. As she worked, she murmured to herself, "Quincy, you have to get better. When we get back, I'll agree to whatever you ask." She assumed Quincy was too delirious to hear her. However, he reached out suddenly and grabbed her hand tightly. He asked with his intense gaze. "Do you really mean that?" Lydia was startled. If it weren't for Quincy's body still burning with fever, she might have thought he was faking it. Blushing, she said, "I didn't say anything. Let go of me, now." Quincy chuckled weakly. "No way, I heard every word." Lydia looked down, embarrassed, and gave him a light shove. "I think you're just pretending to be sick." Hearing this, Quincy immediately looked hurt. He took Lydia's hand and placed it on his chest, saying, "Feel for yourself and see if I'm lying." The heat radiating from his body made Lydia drop her teasing. Her brows furrowed with concern. "You're really not okay. We need to get you shelp." As she helped Quincy up, Lydia suddenly stopped in her tracks. A glimmer of hope flashed in her eyes. She had spotted a middle-aged man with a hunting dog, out in the woods. She quickly approached him, "Excuse me, sir, do you live nearby?" The urgency in her voice made the man take a closer look. "What's going on?" he asked.
Lydia explained hurriedly, "My friend here is very sick. We got lost while exploring, and now he has a bad fever. Do you have any medicine? I'm willing to pay." In this remote area, finding another person might take ages, and she knew she couldn't let this opportunity slip by.
The man looked Lydia up and down and asked, "You two chere to explore? You look more like you've been through a war." Lydia glanced at herself and Quincy, realizing how disheveled they appeared. Embarrassment flickered across her face. They really did look like they were in bad shape.
The man then said, "Cwith me. I've been out all day and haven't caught anything, but maybe running into you two is a sign that I'm supposed to help." Lydia nearly cried with relief. "Thank you, thank you so much!" The man led them to a simple but clean house. He took out a box of medicine, shook out two pills, and handed them to her. "Give these to him. Medicine is precious up here in the mountains. Even for someone like me, I only make it to town every ten or fifteen days to pick up supplies." once "Thank you," Lydia said immediately.
