"What do you mean he detests women? He brought a woman to the company's cafeteria before, remember? If a man does not mingle with women, it's a sign that he is gay or he has erectile dysfunction! However, judging by Mr. Clement's figure and his manliness, do you think that he's either? Don't you feel that something's strange? That woman replaced Mr. Clement's secretary for half a day, then took two weeks' leave. If she didn't terminate her pregnancy, then why would she need to take two weeks' leave?" "Did you also realize that Mr. Clements hasn't been in the office during these two weeks? I noticed Mr. Reynes calling him a few times. He toldthat he needed to bring sdocuments over to Mr. Clements to sign! I'm pretty sure that he did not go on a business trip!" "No wonder she hasn't been fired even though she requested for two weeks' leave. It turns out that there's something fishy between her and Mr. Clements!" "She's back today, but I didn't see Mr. Clements..." "Mr. Clements doesn't necessarily have to cto work. He is the president for a reason. Which woman does not want to take advantage of him? Besides, she's beautiful. I'm not surprised that she slept with Mr. Clements! However, she must have overestimated her abilities! Does she think it is easy to marry into a wealthy family?" "Right?" So they were gossiping about her! She'd been worried for nothing.
Alicia let out a breath and couldn't help rolling her eyes. Terminating her pregnancy? These people had amazing imaginations.
She looked down at the thermos flask in her hand. Then, she gave a slight cough before she entered the pantry. She didn't really care about what people were gossiping about her. However, what she worried most was people making up stories out of thin air.
After returning to her seat, she made a cup of chrysanthemum tea. Then, she continued on with her work. Just as she was about to get off from work, she received a text from Frederick. "How are you feeling today?" Alicia knew that he texted her to warn her not to exert herself. She smiled and sent a few cute emojis to him, "I've been good. I did not do anything but sign documents." While she was texting Frederick, someone suddenly threw a document on her desk. "Alicia, I need this document to be translated by tomorrow. I want it typed out in the computer. Once you're done, email it to me! I'm going to need it for my presentation the next day!" When Alicia saw that it was her manager, Giselle, who placed the documents on her desk, she quickly stood up and said, "Alright, Giselle!" Giselle briefly glanced at her then at the phone in her hand again from the corner of her eye. After that, she turned around and strode away.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJudging by the looks of the document on her table, she estimated that it contained at least 30 pages. Alicia could not help but heave a sigh. The deadline was a little tight, but at least Giselle wasn't allowing her to just sit back and wait for tto pass anymore! As soon as Alicia finished texting Frederick, she skimmed through the pages for a while. Fortunately, there were many empty pages in between. It meant that there were not as many pages as she initially assumed! Since she had nothing to do at home, she decided to stay at work for another hour.
After all, she was used to translating. In the blink of an eye, she managed to translate 6 pages. She figured that since it was relatively easy, she decided to save the rest for tomorrow. She habitually saved the translated pages and made a backup before switching off the computer.
The next day, Alicia had strivial matter that she had to take care of during the day, so she decided to stay back for another hour to translate the rest of the documents.
She only had four pages left. She estimated that she needed another hour to finish it. She briefly rubbed her eyes and retrieved the documents. Just as she was about to continue on with her translation, her screen suddenly flashed. The next second, her screen turned black.
What was going on? When she looked up, she realised that one of the ceiling lights in the hall had turned off! Oh no! Did it trip? Alicia looked down at the socket by her feet. She was slightly irritated. She got up and walked to the door. As expected, one of the switches in the electrical box had tripped.
She stood on her toes and flipped the switch back up.
Alicia then returned to her seat and switched on her computer. She felt a flash of irritation as she realized that she had forgotten to save her previous work. She had done about a thousand words. Only then did she remember that she was not used to this computer and did not enable the autosave function.
Alicia felt that luck was not on her side. She quickly reset the autosave function from saving every 30 minutes to saving every minute. She stared at her previous work and began with her translation.
By the tshe finished translating, it was nearly nine o'clock. She was exhausted and immediately clicked the save button. She then reached out to pick up her thermos flask and realized that it was empty. Since she had to read through the translated document before submitting it to her manager, she turned off her computer screen, got up and headed to the pantry.
It was already late at night, so no one was in the office. The only sound that she could hear was the sound of her high heels clicking on the floor. However, she could still vaguely see slights along the corridor.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThis was a big company and it cwith a huge pressure! It was already so late, yet there were still so many people working overtime! It was just like everybody said: the better you were, the more hardworking you had to be. What right did she have to laze about? Alicia had calmed down significantly by the tshe returned to her desk. However, as she as she arrived at her desk, she froze. Why was her chair facing inwards? She remembered that her chair was facing outwards when she'd turned and walked out just now. Had it turned back on its own? Alicia subconsciously lifted her head and took one look around the entire office. There was not a single soul around. Looking at the hall key in her hand, she subconsciously moved the mouse to wake the computer. The screen was locked and could only be unlocked with a password.
She thought about it and realized that she had translated a few special purchase contracts and
supplementary technical regulations as well as smeeting notes. Since it was a purchase contract, it as e was not a Secret. Moreover, She had a feeling that the other departments should know about the purchase contract. Since Alicia felt that there was nothing important in her computer that she was afraid of losing, she sat back in her seat and did not think much about it.
She switched on her computer and quickly ran through her translation. After thoroughly checking her work, she saved the document and emailed it to her manager. After that, she checked it again and saved a copy. She was planning to print copy the next day and send it to the document room in the morning. She was afraid that she would forget, so she quickly wrote a note down and she packed up berthings before heading home. The moment she stepped into the house, her phone rang. "Hubby..." As she spoke, she let out a whine and flopped onto the bed. She held a huge teddy bear in her arms and closed her eyes comfortably.
"What's wrong? Are you tired?" "Yeah, I had to work overtime."
When Frederick heard the tone of her voice, he wanted to ask her about the situation. Before he could do that, I Alicia asked sweetly, "Do I deserve a praise?" "Pfft!" Frederick nearly laughed out loud. He'd thought that she was going to complain, yet here she was, asking for praise! "You're so hardworking! What do you wantto bring back for you as a gift? rn get them for you tomorrow!" "You're coming back tomorrow?" Alicia quickly sat up in her bed, clearly sounding very excited and happy. They'd only been apart for two days, and they'd spoken on the phone everyday, but she still missed him li X
