Jeremy nodded and his expression eased a little. "Alright! Ally, have you... been getting by like this for these three years?" Did she have to work at night and hurt herself to protect herself? Although there were fewer veins on the thigh and the pain felt would be the greatest, there were arteries too. One small mistake and she could have been dead! She did not expect him to ask such a question, concern apparent in his voice. She looked up immediately and could not cto her senses for about three seconds. Perhaps it was due to intense movement that she suddenly felt faint.
"Careful-" Jeremy reached out instinctively and caught her in his arms.
She did not know if it was because there were traces of drugs remaining in her body, she felt dizzy and closed her eyes, leaning on him for support.
When she felt better, she opened her eyes only to see a familiar black sedan speeding by! She turned her head and her gaze paused. Was she mistaken? Why did it look like Frederick's car? "Are you still feeling unwell? Do you need to go back to the hospital?" Coming back to her senses, she quickly pulled away, putting sdistance between them. She shook her head. "I'm fine! Maybe it's because I had too many drips. I'm a little tired, I just need srest! I'll go in now!" Everything that happened last night and Jeremy's sudden change of attitude made Alicia scared. To be honest, he had beca thorn in her heart over the years. Whether she heard of him or saw him in person, it always seemed like her nightmare had returned to haunt her. As if she developed a reflex, she would stay away from him to protect herself.
Taking one last look at him, she ran limping into the house and locked the door.
Frederick was about to combust from anger as he put his foot on the gas pedal. He did not hear them talking but he saw their intimate actions. Not only was he weird to have thought about going back, but he was also a complete, pathetic fool! She did not give him a single call when he had not returned home. Instead, she went out with another man and stayed outside for the whole night? Perhaps, the reason she did not let him touch her was not that she found him filthy, but a ridiculous excuse to keep her 'chastity'! She did not have an ounce of him in her heart! This was the only clear judgement Frederick could make the entire morning.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHe was not suspicious of Alicia and Jeremy having an affair but their past was a pain in the neck. It made insecurity ripple in his heart.
At the office, Frederick had a terribly sullen face.
When Chet walked in, the room was filled with clouds of smoke and the strong smell of cigarettes.
Coughing uncomfortably, he opened the windows. "What tricky trouble have you met with, Frederick?" It was rare to see Frederick so depressed and unmotivated. At that moment, Chet felt that he was in an awfully bad mood.
Looking at Chet, the light in Frederick's eyes was gone, not even a hint of glow present in his dull orbs. "It's a tricky problem indeed!" He realized that he had fallen for someone he should have not! He had missed her and he could not stand seeing her with another man. Unfortunately, she had millions of things kept in her heart but not him. She had not cared for him and all she loved was money.
Why would he want an empty shell without her heart? Even if she had stayed, how long would it last? He remembered the days when his stepmother abused him. It was because she did not love his father, wasn't it? All she had wanted was money and the only way to have it was to get rid of him so that she would have the chance to conceive children, to increase her chances of getting more money! That all happened when he was just an innocent, clueless child.
However, Danica was the opposite of her. She cared about him more than anything.
He should be more inclined to the latter but unfortunately, he liked the former.
He had had enough of those dark days without a speck of light! "How can I help you?" Frederick sat down with his jaw propped on his hand and spoke faintly, "Helpchair this afternoon's meetings!" Chet smacked his forehead, speechless.
"I say, can you not do this to me, Frederick? I've already stood in for you the whole morning, my back is breaking in pain! The meeting records are over there-" Did he do this to him on purpose? A whole day of meetings? There were no empty slots at all! Even his ears needed rest! Chet was appalled.
"Well, I have never seen backs actually breaking from meetings. We shall try that to broaden my horizons!" Frederick took his pen and signed the meeting records.
"You can deal with it! I'm going out this afternoon!" That night, Frederick purposely asked Danica out for dinner.
He wanted to forget the shock Alicia had caused him in the morning. Never would he have thought, throughout the dinner, he had no appetite at all. Danica's soft voice kept bringing up all their old stories and memories, reminding him about those menial things. He had listened to them so many times that he was sick of it.
It was as though the two of them had nothing to talk about other than the past.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAs he left the hotel, he did not feel any better. Instead, he was even more irritated.
"Frederick, do you remember when we used to go out for a barbecue at midnight? Your favorite restaurant was the one over at Northern Street. You loved the grilled flatbreads and would even insist forto eat half of it. There was one twhen I gained six kilograms and you said you could barbecuelike a 'fat little shrimp' because I loved shrimps! "Yes!" Frederick answered habitually but he had no interest in what she was saying.
He had already stopped eating barbecue! Just as he was feeling annoyed, a gust of wind rushed by and before he knew it, Danica hugged him tightly. "Watch out!"
Frederick staggered before returning to his senses and he saw Danica in hine Nearby, front of him, protecting hinc there was eving on the ground with a man half- kneeling beside it. There was an obvious cut on the hem of her dress. He felt a surge of warmth in his heart. He quickly scanned her from head to toe for injuries. "Were you hurt?" Shaking her head, she smiled. "Nope! It's just a cut on my dress!" At this time, the man had already gotten up. Holding on to his motorcycle, he limped over. "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry. It was an accident..." He had not expected the goods in the back seat to bump into someone from that distance.
As soon as he saw Frederick in his suit, wearing a diamond watch, the man started sweating profusely.
"Sir, Madam, I hope you're not hurt? Please forgive me. I'm just a poor cobbler, my money is hard-earned. I was rushing back hto fetch my children but I had accidentally bumped into both of you. Can we settle this peacefully? You see, my motorcycle's also broken." He was driving in the wrong lane and was afraid of being held accountable. He apologized to them humbl
