A week has passed since the day I first summoned the scepter, and in that tthings around and insidehave changed. Shifted. What once felt impossible now calmost naturally.

The scepter now answerslike it has always been mine, materializing in my hand with a thought. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to call it toafter that first time, but I shouldn't have been. Now I can easily wield it without any struggle. With it, controlling my other powers has been a walk in the park. Nyx really wasn't kidding when she toldthat we could do so much more.

I've been pushing myself this past week and now, I can easily control fire and air. I'm still learning to control the other elements, but it's only a matter of tbefore I master both water and earth. Even energy itself, pure and raw, answers me.

I've never been this happy to accomplish something. It leftfeeling more confident in my abilities and my mission to kill Kaden.

"Don't forget that you can also control the weather," Nyx murmurs lazily.

Yeah, she's toldthat so many times, but I am yet to test out that ability. I don't know; spart ofis doubtful. I mean, this is the weather we're talking about. It just seems like pushing things too far.

Nyx scoffs. "Remember the day you lost control?" "Yes," I reply hesitantly.

"The clouds turned grey, the wind picked up and it seemed it was about to rain... and don't forget the thunder.... What did you think that was?" Now that I think of it, there was a little bit of a drizzle, but I was so lost that most things barely registered to me. "I don't know..." I mumble with uncertainty.

"That was the weather responding to your emotions... and if it can respond to your emotions, doesn't that mean you can bend it to your will?" I stay quiet. As much as I'm starting to embrace my powers, being able to control the freaking weather freaksout.

Instead of answering, I focus my mind on creating energy balls.

I shape it into a sphere of blue light, then hurl it toward the trees that lined the field. One explodes on impact, splitting a thick trunk in two. The sound cracks through the air like thunder.

I'm still catching my breath when the sound of slow, steady clapping breaks through the area.

I turn, chest still heaving, to find Alec walking towards me. His eyes are locked on the shattered tree, a half-smile tugging at his lips.

"Remindnever to get on your bad side," he says, his voice rich with amusement.

I roll my eyes, fighting the heat in my cheeks. "You say that like you're ever on my good side." He chuckles, and for a heartbeat the sharp edges of his Alpha presence soften. I've grown used to that lately-this gentler Alec. The onwho didn't just lead with power but with something softer. The one who now interacted with his pack members more.

The man who now joined Aspen and played with the pack's children. The one who now shared every single how

meal with Aspen and me. The man who cevery night without fail to read her bedtstory his voice deep and patient, until she fell asleep curled against him. He wasn't forcing his way back into my life. He was simply... there. Consistent and unshakable. It's terrifying how much that steadiness matters to me. It terrifies

"Nyx says this is only the beginning," I admit. "But... it feels different. Stronger. Like the power wantstoo." His eyes search mine, and something flickers in them. "Have you tried with mind control again?"

The question catchesoff guard.

My thoughts flash back to that day O with the hybrid. The way my words had slipped past his will and bound him like chains and made him do exactly what I wanted. "Not since then," I say carefully.
